Northern Ballet’s heart-warming children’s ballet Tortoise and the Hare will tour to venues across the UK in spring 2024.

After opening in London in January, the show will embark on an extensive UK tour from February 12, including Leeds, Buxton, Goole, Huddersfield, York, Harrogate, Doncaster, Hartlepool, Hull, Barnsley, Bridlington and Bradford in the north.

Tortoise and the Hare is a reimagining of Aesop’s fable about a tortoise who, tired of being teased for his slowness, challenges a hare to a race.

The colourful 40-minute production has been created particularly for families with children aged three and over.

Many venues will feature a "relaxed" performance which will be open to all but is intended to reduce anxiety - particularly in those with sensory or communication problems, and help all members of the audience to relax. For the first time there will also be two audio-described performances and an accompanying "touch tour" during the show's run at the company's home theatre in Leeds.

Choreographed by former Northern Ballet dancers Dreda Blow and Sebastian Loe, Tortoise and the Hare was first seen in 2015 and was the second children’s ballet by the pair. The production includes an original score composed by Bruno Merz, set designs by Ali Allen and live music performed by members of the Northern Ballet Sinfonia.
