Though Oldham Coliseum has had the disappointment of not having the theatre ready for a panto this year - as was the intention - there will still be a Christmas show.

Not Too Tame Theatre and the Coliseum are inviting performers to audition for a production of Jim Cartwright’s A Christmas Fair, to be directed by Not Too Tame’s Jimmy Fairhurst and starring Oldham's own John Henshaw.

The show will be presented in an immersive way - making the audience part of the action - in a specially-organised theatre space at Chadderton Town Hall, Oldham, from December 17-January 2, 2026.

The production is looking to cast local professional performers in two roles in the show at workshop-auditions in Oldham on October 6 (9:30am-5:30pm).

The roles looking for actors are Lucy, a northern girl in her early to mid-twenties, and Johnny, in his late twenties-early thirties. Both need to be strong singers. You can find out more about the character requirements and submissions here, but note you don't have much time: the deadline is October 3 at 5pm.

Cartwright's show features the Farnworth playwright's trademark comedy-with-a-kick - which fits in well with Not Too Tame’s raucous spirit.

Set - obviously - at Christmas, the show is set in the old village hall where locals are setting up their annual fair. Among the stalls we see stories of young love, distracted vicars, bored caretakers and plenty more. It's village life through Cartwright's often disorientating lens, and all human life is there.
