Chester Storyhouse arts centre's management has made a major step forward in the building's energy sustainability by installing an extensive rooftop solar panel array.
The panels will expand the theatre’s solar energy capacity and offer significant cost savings. As a vital "warm hub" for local residents - the building houses the city library, a restaurant and meeting rooms as well as the theatre and cinema - the improvements are useful in helping to provide a welcoming, energy-efficient space for all users.
Storyhouse CEO Annabel Turpin said: “This is one of those projects that isn’t always visible to the public, but makes a huge difference behind the scenes. These panels mean we can cut our carbon footprint and our energy bills at the same time; good news for the planet and for keeping Storyhouse open, warm, and welcoming."
The installation was made possible with a £20,000 grant from the Theatres Trust’s theatre improvement scheme in partnership with the Wolfson Foundation, and £25,000 from Cheshire West and Chester Council’s climate emergency fund.
