Poster for Waiting for Godot at Liverpool Everyman

Matthew Kelly and George Costigan, who first met at the Liverpool Everyman during the 1970s, return in a new production of Samuel Beckett’s classic Waiting for Godot, part of the new Everyman Playhouse season (at the Everyman from March 17-April 4, 2026) and a co-production with Glasgow's Citizens Theatre and Bolton Octagon.

George’s credits include John, Paul, George, Ringo… and Bert (Everyman) and the BAFTA-winning drama See No Evil: The Moors Murders. Matthew last appeared at the Everyman for the theatre’s reopening show, Twelfth Night, in 2014.

The pair previously appeared together in Of Mice and Men (Birmingham Rep) for which Matthew won an Olivier award for best actor.

Over at the Playhouse, visiting productions include The Last Laugh (September 23-27), imagining a backstage meeting between three comedy legends, Tommy Cooper, Eric Morecambe and Bob Monkhouse; legendary ghost story The Woman in Black (February 24-28); imitating the dog in their new take on HG Wells’s War of the Worlds (March 4-7) and new Britpop musical The Battle, starring Mathew Horne (Gavin & Stacey) as the music executive who ignited the race to No1 for Blur and Oasis (May 12-16).

Comedy lovers will also appreciate the theatres' top line-up for the autumn, which includes stand-up shows from James Acaster, Aisling Bea, Ardal O'Hanlon and Kerry Godliman, among others.
